Natif d’Ottawa, le compositeur et bassiste Sage Reynolds s’est installé à Montréal au milieu des années 90 pour poursuivre ses études (à l’Université McGill) et s’y tailler une place en tant que musicien professionnel. Sage a enregistré ou joué avec divers groupes au cours des années dont Thomas Hellman, Jordan Officer, Life in Winter, Gabriel Lambert Trio, Stars, Amon Tobin, Ismail Fencioglu, Shtreiml, Courtney Wing, Julian Brown, et bien entendu le Sage Reynolds Quartet (SRQ) & Sage Reynolds- The Long Drift.

Sage a joué sur de nombreuses scènes ici comme à l’étranger. On a pu entendre Sage au Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (2005, 2006, et 2008 avec SRQ), au Festival International de Jazz d’Ottawa (2007 avec SRQ), au Festival international de Jazz de Merida au Mexique (2005) ainsi qu’au Folk Alliance Conference en 2006 à Austin aux États-Unis. On the Wall, le premier album qu’il signe en tant que leader et producteur, est paru en septembre 2006 sur étiquette Effendi Records. 

Sage a lancé un premier album avec son groupe rock, Life in Winter, en 2012. En plus de jouer au sein d’une variété de groupe à Montréal, en tournée au Québec et en Europe (notamment avec Thomas Hellman, Jordan Officer et Emilie Clepper), Sage travaille aussi à la création d’un EP avec Life in Winter ainsi qu’un nouveau projet indie folk en tant qu’auteur-compositeur-interprète.

Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, bassist/composers Sage Reynolds moved to Montréal, Québec in the mid-nineties to pursue his studies and make a life for himself as a professional musician. Sage’s training consists of a Bachelor of Music Degree (Jazz Perf.) at McGill University (’00), private study (w/ Jordan O’Connor, Michel Donato, Alec Walkington, John Hebert, and others), and participation in many master classes and seminars, including a bass master class with Mark Dresser and participation in The International Jazz Workshop at The Banff Centre for the Arts (’99), where he played and studied with Dave Holland, Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, and Kenny Werner. 

Groups that Sage has performed or recorded with include Sage Reynolds Quartet (SRQ) & Sage Reynolds- The Long Drift, Life in Winter, Thomas Hellman, Jordan Officer, Gabriel Lambert Trio, Stars, Amon Tobin, Ismail Fencioglu, Shtreiml, Courtney Wing, and Julian Brown. 

Sage has performed on both national and international stages at events such as the Montréal International Jazz Festival (’05, ’06, & ’08 w/ SRQ), the Ottawa International Jazz Festival (’07 w/ SRQ), l’OFF Festival de Jazz de Montréal (’07 w/ SRQ), the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Merida Jazz Festival Internacional (’05, Mexico), and the 2006 Folk Alliance Conference in Austin, TX. 

Sage was awarded the “Prix Étoiles Galaxie de Radio- Canada” at the 2005 MIJF for his compositions “Saturday Afternoon” and “On the Wall”. Later that year SRQ opened for John Scofield at Spectrum (Montréal.) On the Wall, Sage’s first full length CD as a band-leader/producer, was released in September ’06 on Effendi Records (Montréal) and his first CD (eponymous) with his indie folk/rock group Life in Winter was released on October 29, 2012. As well as continuing to perform in Montréal (with various groups/artists) and tour in Québec & Europe (with Thomas Hellman, Jordan Officer, Emilie Clepper, and other groups), Sage is in the midst of an EP recording project for Life in Winter and a new acoustic indie folk songwriting project under his own name.
